Is It June Yet?

In the mobile world, summer time has become one of the most anticipated seasons of the year.

This is due, in no small part, to the simple fact that the summer months of June and July just happen to be when Apple likes to treat us to new hardware. Fanboy or not, it’s hard to say with a straight face that your interest isn’t at least a little piqued come time for the new iPhone announcement each year.

But does the summer truly belong to Apple now?

RIM Needs a Swift Kick in the OS, Among Other Things

No one in his or her right mind can argue that BlackBerry devices aren’t the cream of the crop when it comes to email and messaging in general. RIM’s focus from the onset has been the business user and providing email access in the best, most efficient way possible. Congratulations RIM, you’ve mastered that art.

With slight shifts in more recent years, the BlackBerry brand has managed to draw in a new flock of users that fall well outside the enterprise category. The addition of this “consumer” segment of users has made BlackBerry the most purchased smartphone brand in the U.S.

But how long can RIM keep it up?

Can the Apple iPhone Withstand Another Modest Upgrade?

On June 19th, 2009, Apple launched the iPhone 3GS. To some, this was a welcome upgrade from the aging (one-year-old) iPhone 3G, offering a faster processor, video recording and editing on a slightly better camera, voice control and a compass.

Still, others thought that with a year to come up with a fresh new offering — as it did from the original iPhone to the iPhone 3G — Apple left a lot to be desired with its third iteration. Yet somehow, Apple still managed to sell the iPhone 3GS like it was eternal salvation.
